Doris N. Moore Luttrell Gibbons, a beloved matriarch, was born on April 3, 1943, in Middleton, Tennessee. Her journey through life came to a peaceful close on December 12, 2025, at her home in Lakeland, Tennessee, surrounded by the warmth of cherished memories and the love she so generously shared with her family.
Doris dedicated many years to her career in collections at Consolidated Collections, where she worked diligently before retiring in 2006. Her commitment to her work mirrored the dedication she showed to her family, who held a special place in her heart. Doris was not just a mother, sister, and grandmother; she was the cornerstone of a large immediate and extended family, relishing her role in bringing them together and nurturing their bonds.
Throughout her life, Doris found immense joy in nature. She cherished moments spent on the farm, quietly observing the deer that graced her surroundings. It was there, amid the tranquility of the land that she loved, that Doris felt most at peace. After her retirement, she made Lakeland her home, having previously lived in Memphis and Hardeman County, where her roots were deeply planted.
Doris's legacy will continue to resonate through her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Janet L. Cagle (Jason) of Memphis, her brothers, James L. Moore of Little Rock, AR, and Glen Moore (Karen) of Bolivar, her sisters, Jane Clark of Bolivar and Sue Jaggars of Lakeland, TN, and her delightful grandchildren, Alex, Max and Jack Cagle, along with her great-granddaughter, Amelia Cagle. Additionally, her stepson, Danny Gibbons (Kristy), and step-granddaughter, Lacey carry forward her spirit of love and connection.
Doris was preceded in death by her father, John L. Moore, her mother, Amanda Kathleen Smalley Moore, her brother, John L. Moore, Jr., and sisters, Barbara Jean Chappell and Shirley Moore Mathis. Their memories are lovingly celebrated by those who remain, part of the loving fabric that Doris wove throughout her lifetime.
A memorial service to honor her remarkable life will be held on December 20, 2025, at New Hope church of Christ in Middleton, TN. Friends and family are invited to gather to reflect on Doris's incredible journey, sharing the laughter, love, and memories that enriched all of their lives.
As we say goodbye to Doris, let us carry forward her legacy of family unity, love for nature, and the spirit of caring that defined her life. She will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will soar through the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
