Doris Jean Mumaw, 96, of Harpers Ferry, WV, passed away at her residence on Saturday, May 10, 2025, under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born March 9, 1929, in Middleway, WV, she was the daughter of the late John Fielding Lewis and Gladys (Childs) Lewis.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Harpers Ferry, WV.
Her family was her greatest joy and her life's purpose. Always younger than her years, Doris was a "hip" Grandma. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
Doris is survived by two daughters, Norma Jean Wilt (Richard) and Diana Bond of Charles Town; three sons, Jeffrey Mumaw (Kim) and Terry Mumaw (Monica) of Harpers Ferry, and Keith Mumaw (Michelle) of Charles Town; daughter-in-law, Kristine Mumaw of Charles Town, one sister, Frances Longerbeam of Harpers Ferry; one brother, John "Mann" Lewis of Brunswick, Maryland, 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Norman Clifford Mumaw; her son, Norman "Jr" Mumaw; two grandsons, Travis Bond and Ryan Mumaw; two sisters, Catherine Payne and Barbara Brown; four brothers, Frederick "Freddie" Lewis, Gary "Lammie" Lewis, John "Jackie" Lewis and James "Jimmy" Lewis.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Michelle Mowery, Tammy Johnson, and Doris's great-niece, Pam Norris, for the excellent care they provided to our mother.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV, with The Honorable Reverend Dr. John R. Unger officiating. Interment will follow in Brownsville Heights Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall at Brownsville Church of the Brethren.
