Shelby mourns the loss of a beloved community member. Doris Payne Biglin, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering spirit. Born on September 7, 1933, to Albert and Florece (Reynolds) Stoffer. Doris was a vibrant force in the lives of all who knew her, known for her larger-than-life personality.
Doris, the matriarch of her family was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert D. Payne, and her second husband, Mel Biglin. Both of whom she held dear in her heart. Doris is survived by her devoted daughters, Patty (Tommy) Thompson and Linda Spangler; son, George Payne; step-children, Stephen (Joyce) Biglin; Veronica (Dennis) Negrey; Christopher (Debbie) Biglin; Gregory (Judy) Biglin; Bernadette (John) Howell; Cassandra (Chuck) Tyrrell; and Melissa (Jim) Powers. She took great pleasure in being a grandmother to Scott Spangler, Eric Spangler, Megan Thompson, and Thomas Thompson, as well as her great-grandchild, Lynlee June Spangler. In addition, brother Larry (Ann) Stoffer, sister Jane (Ron) LaBarge and sister-in-law Lousie Stoffer survive.
In addition to her parents, Doris was also preceded in death by her son, Martin Payne; step-children, Priscilla Vance and Annette Esham; son-in-law, Ron Spangler; brother, Robert Stoffer; and sister, Marilyn Clark. All of whom were a cherished part of her life.
A passionate advocate for her community, Doris made history as Shelby's first elected female mayor, a role in which she served with dedication and passion from 1996 to 2001. Doris committed much of her life to making Shelby a better place for all. Her enthusiasm for local causes and her willingness to lend a helping hand inspired many.
Doris, a 1951 graduate of Shelby High School was an intense Shelby Whippet and Cleveland sports fan. Her spirited commentary during games will be fondly remembered by family and friends alike.
Doris' warmth, humor, and kindness touched the lives of countless individuals. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and valued. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Doris will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain a guiding light in the lives of those she loved.
Friends may visit the family Monday, April 7, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. A funeral service will immediately follow at 5:00 PM with Edna Stahl officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. (Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh)
