Doris Pollard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by DW Brooks Funeral Home on Aug. 20, 2021.
Doris Jean Jones, lovingly known as "Jeannie" and "Deeda," was born to Willie Mae Deshone and A. M. Jones on August 13, 1949, in Caldwell, TX. She helped maintain the household and take care of her younger siblings. She attended Spot Taylor Elementary School in Caldwell and Smith High School in Gause, TX. It was while attending Smith High, where she was a cheerleader and member of the girls basketball team, that she met her future husband and love of her life, Chester O'Dell Pollard. In 1968, her senior year, she was bussed to attend the newly-integrated Caldwell High School.
Following her graduation from high school, Doris moved to Dallas, where she lived with family and began to stretch her wings as a young adult embarking on the next new and exciting phase of her life. Having always been a hard worker with a strong work ethic, she focused on obtaining gainful employment. Her quest led her to jobs at a dry cleaners shop and a daycare center, before she applied to and was hired by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She continued working for Southwestern Bell, now known as AT&T, until retirement.

On October 4, 1969, Doris and O'Dell Pollard were married. She transferred her job and moved to San Antonio, TX, where they would put down roots together and raise their family. During this union, they became the parents of three children they loved dearly and brought up in the training and instruction of the Lord at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. C. M. Graham and Rev. C. V. Herbin, Jr.

As a deaconess of the church, she enjoyed being of service to others and was often called upon to prepare a pan of turkey and dressing or a 7-up cake or a peach cobbler (all recipes from her mother) when a dinner was to be served. She particularly enjoyed contributing to the church's annual Senior Citizen Luncheon by preparing food and gift bags for the attendees and sending some "sunshine" to the church members who were unable to attend service due to illness. These are but a few ways in which she demonstrated the love of Christ to others. She was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary until her health began to fail.

On August 13, 2021, the Lord called Doris home. She was preceded in death by her father, A. M. Jones, and her youngest brother, Terrell Jones.

She leaves the following to cherish fond memories: her loving husband of 51 years, Chester O'Dell Pollard, Sr.; daughters, Tamera D. Pollard and Chante N. Pollard; son, Chester O. Pollard, Jr. (LaKisha); granddaughter, Cheyenne A. Pollard; grandsons, Deonte L. Bonner, Trey D. Pollard, Jovan S. Pollard, Malachi D. Pollard, and KeSean O. Pollard; her mother, Willie Mae Love; siblings, Willie C. Taylor, Annie L. Jones (Donnie), Linda Vann, Johnnie R. Love (Vera), Marilyn S. Francis and Theodore D. Love; and a host of cherished relatives and friends and her Mt. Calvary church family. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Doris Pollard please visit our Tribute Store.
