Heaven gained another angel when Doris Jean (Harkins) Prosser, 95, of Windy Hill Farm, Emlenton, moved to her eternal home early Sunday morning, June 29, 2025.
Born in Pittsburgh on November 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Thelma Kirsop Harkins. Doris was a graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School.
She was the perfect partner to her husband of 64 years, Rev. Thomas E. Prosser. Rev. Prosser preceded her in death on May 27, 2020. In their earlier years, the couple managed Westminster Highlands Church Camp encouraging many youths to engage in Christian ministry. Doris was a devoted Christian and supported Christian ministries in the First Presbyterian Church in Farrell, Fairgreen Presbyterian Church in Sylvania, OH, and East Unity Presbyterian Church in Cherry Valley. She was a faithful member of Edenburg Presbyterian Church in Knox for many years where she sang in the church choir and led the women's Bible study group. She was an active member of the Scrubgrass Grange and belonged to the Order of Eastern Star. She loved to feed the birds at her home in Scrubgrass Twp. as their songs filled her world with joy. Doris was always ready to work, bake a cake, or donate cookies and was a devoted volunteer at the Foxview Therapeutic Riding School and at UPMC Northwest for many years. Following retirement, Thom and Doris enjoyed spending the winter months in Okechobee, Florida.
She was affectionately "Smiley" to friends and family because of her always ready smile. Doris was always beloved by her children, David Prosser and his wife, Robyn and Beth Prosser Pansino and her husband, Terry. She was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren, Christopher Prosser and his wife, Laura, Katy Best and her husband, Brian, Thomas Pansino and his wife, Beth, and Timothy Pansino. She delighted in the antics of her four great grandchildren, Taylor, Harlow, Abigail, and Milo. Also surviving is a brother, Robert Harkins and his wife, Shirley, and a number of nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Certainly the world was made a better place because of Doris's loving, giving spirit.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Prosser and her brother, Don Harkins.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and on Friday from 9-10 a.m. at the Edenburg Presbyterian Church, 405 Main St., Knox. A funeral service will follow from the church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Sarah Sedgwick, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Emlenton Cemetery. Members of the Clarion Chapter #267 Order of Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service for their departed sister Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edenburg Presbyterian Church, PO Box 458, Knox, PA 16232. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
