Doris (Vinson) Rainwater was the fourth of seven children born to Irvin and Lovie Vinson in Hughes Springs, Texas. Her early days were often associated with family gatherings and involvement with her Sunday School class at the local Baptist Church. After a family relocation to Arizona, Doris completed high school and met her future husband, Leonard Rainwater. They maintained an intermittent relationship for the next ten years until they decided to marry in February 1956. In 1958 they welcomed a daughter Deborah and two years later, in 1960, a son Tommy. Doris was a devoted wife and mother.
Over her husband's 20-year service career, Doris was an Air Force mom, often alone with two young children during long deployments. After the service, Doris and Leonard started an Arizona air conditioning and heating business. After many years of hard work, they sold the business and relocated to Northern California to be closer to family. Several years later, they decided to retire in Llano, Texas, where they built their dream home on the Llano River. They were long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Llano and dedicated much of their free time to developing and managing the local food pantry. They both cherished the friends they made here in Llano. Doris was a loving, generous person who always had a kind word. Doris was a favorite, cherished aunt to many. She is missed more than words can convey.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Leonard. She is survived by her daughter Debbie Anderson and her son Tommy Rainwater, her brothers Houston Vinson and Donald Vinson, grandchildren Sean Montijo, Christina Radcliff, and Lindsey Morgan, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Doris's life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 12th, at the First Baptist Church, 107 W. Luce St. Llano, TX.
