Doris L. Climer Ramey, 96, of
Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at her residence in
Dyersburg, Tennessee.
Born Saturday, August 24, 1929, in Dyer County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Burton Climer and the late Jettie Pinkley Climer.
She was known affectionately as "Mama" to all who knew her. She loved unconditionally and welcomed everyone with a caring heart, a listening ear, and a gentle spirit that made people feel instantly at home.
Mrs. Ramey found great joy in cooking for those she loved and took pride in passing her kitchen skills on to her grandchildren. Everything she made was prepared with love and was always delicious, but family favorites included her pear preserves and her much-loved chocolate gravy-recipes that will continue to bring comfort and cherished memories for generations to come. Her coconut cake held a special place in the family; her granddaughters especially cherished it and asked her to teach them how to make it. In fact, Mrs. Doris's famous coconut cake was served at the weddings of three of her granddaughters, a sweet tradition that reflected her love and influence.
A woman of strong faith, Mrs. Ramey was a devoted member of Beech Grove Baptist Church. She faithfully served her church family for many years as the teacher of the Adult Women's Class, where she shared her wisdom, kindness, and love for the Lord with all who attended.
Above all else, Mrs. Ramey's greatest legacy is the love she poured into her family.
Cremation services for Mrs. Ramey are under the direction of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
She is survived by four sons, Jimmy Wayne Ramey (Donna) of Paris, Tennessee, Larry Joe Ramey (Dianne) of Dyer, Tennessee, James Burton Ramey (Sandra) of
Dyersburg, Tennessee and Donnie B. Ramey of
Dyersburg, Tennessee; one daughter, Ann Hooper (Robert) of
Dyersburg, Tennessee; one sister, Elizabeth "Liz" Taylor of Indiana; one brother Raymond Climer of Virginia and she was "Grandma Doris" to her eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of seventy-three years, L B. Ramey, four sisters, Christine LaRue, Evelyn Kelly, Bobbie Taylor and Dorothy Tibbs and four brothers, Paul Climer, J. B. Climer, Bill Climer and Harry Climer.
