Thomas "Tommy" Vandergriff, Jr., 82, of
Trimble, Tennessee died on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at his residence.
Born Friday, September 10, 1943, in
Ripley, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Thomas Vandergriff, Sr. and the late Nellie Katherine Daniels Vandergriff.
Tommy Vandergriff was a devoted family man and cherished friend who lived life with adventure, passion, and a love for the simple joys that brought people together.
He was the retired owner of his own trucking company and spent many years traveling across the United States. Through his work, he saw the country, met countless people, and carried with him a strong work ethic and an easygoing, friendly spirit. He took pride in providing for his family and in the freedom the open road gave him.
One of Tommy's greatest passions was dirt track racing. For more than twenty-five years, he shared this hobby with his sons, building race cars together and spending countless hours at the track. Those years created a special bond filled with teamwork, laughter, and memories that will be treasured forever.
Tommy loved being near the water, where so many of his favorite memories were made. Some of his happiest times were spent on the lake with his family-fishing, water skiing, and enjoying long days on the boat at Horseshoe Lake, a place that always felt like home to him. The fish fries that followed were a cherished tradition, filled with the kind of laughter, stories, and good food that brought everyone together.
He is survived by two sons, Ricky Vandergriff and his wife, Sherry, of Marion, Arkansas and Greg Vandergriff and his wife, Ann, of Martin, Tennessee; one daughter, Cherissa Vandergriff Windt, and her husband, Coy of Lafayette, Louisiana and his longtime companion and caregiver, Sharron Meadows.
He was a devoted "Papaw" to his grandchildren Brien Vandergriff, Danelle Duke, Brittany Duke, Kelsey Vandergriff, Kyle Vandergriff, Jonathon Vandergriff, Logan Vandergriff and Brielle Windt as well as his grandchildren by choice Cory Turner, Lilly Harrell and Tristan Booker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Vandergriff; his daughter and son-in-law, Denese and Warren Duke and five sisters, Virginia Thomas, Shirley Mask, Ramona Vandergriff, Delores Monroe, and Betty Brown.
