Our beloved Doris Gene Sadler Balback was called home on October 3, 2025, surrounded by love and cherished memories.
Doris was a woman of warmth, kindness, and quiet strength. She had a deep love for her animals and found joy and comfort in caring for them throughout her life. Her heart was fullest when she was surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and who brought endless light into her days. A woman of many talents and creative spirit, Doris enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and collecting special keepsakes. Her hobbies reflected her patient and nurturing nature, each piece she made or collected told a story of love, care, and connection.
Doris was a long-term employee of Kerrville Bus Lines and loved her time on the road. She was responsible for safely delivering thousands of passengers coast to coast across the US and Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Mildred Rhoades; her husbands, Lester Franklin Nolen, Kenneth Eugene Sadler, and John H. Balback; and her brother, William B. Rhoades.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Janet Nolen, Tracy Skipping (Shileen), and Leslie Nolen (David Edwards); grandchildren, Nicholas Vidaure, Wyatte Vidaure, Taylor Schwartz (Chris Kelbe), Kyle Vidaure (Scotlyn), Alexandra Schwartz (Dave Sweitzer), Miranda Helmbold (Lewis), Kendra Nolen, and Shy Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Zaidyn Cortinas, Jax Helmbold, and Ezra Vidaure-as well as numerous family members and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 5:00–9:00 p.m. at Austin Peel and Son Funeral Home, 607 E. Anderson Ln., Austin, Texas 78752. Graveside services will follow on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Caraway Cemetery in Leesville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to help cover funeral expenses, in honor of Doris's life and memory.
Her love, compassion, and creativity will continue to live on through those she cherished most.
