Doris E. Stutzman, age 90, of Dover, and formerly of Berlin, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in Dover's Park Village Health Center,
She was born on February 2, 1934, in Orrville, the daughter of the late Lewis and Arlene (Falb) Nussbaum. Doris attended school in Dalton and later took nurses' training in Smithville to become a licensed practical nurse. She wed Edward Stutzman on November 21, 1953; the couple had two daughters and shared 57 years of marriage before Edward's passing on April 7, 2011. Doris retired from Walnut Hills Retirement Community in Walnut Creek where she worked for more than 35 years.
She attended NewPointe Community Church, and later, Riverside Community Church, both in Dover. Doris loved children and was active in children's ministry and created a children's curriculum at NewPointe. She was musically talented, playing the piano and organ, which she taught as well. Doris sang in several different vocal groups and choirs over the years. She liked to stay busy and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crafting and arranging flowers. Doris also owned a cake-baking and decorating business, Novelty Cakes, along with her daughters.
She was very competitive and liked to work on puzzles and play all kinds of games.
Doris will be dearly missed by her daughters, Marilyn (Doug) Gingerich of Quincy, Florida, and Karen Smith of Strasburg; her grandchildren, Nick (Steph) Shrock, Amber (Terrill) Schrock, Josh (Amanda) and Justin (Hannah) Gingerich, Ashley (Matt) McDaniel and Tasha (Mathias) Overbay; her fifteen great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Edith Gingerich, Gordon (Marge), Claire (Lula), Earl (Ruth) and Norman (Judy) Nussbaum and Evelyn White; her sister-in-law, Dorlee Nussbaum; and her nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, Edward, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Todd Smith; her husband's cousin, who was like a daughter to Doris, Marty Hostetler; her sister, Betty Hochstetler; and her brother, Kenny Nussbaum.
Family and friends may call at Riverside Community Church, 2201 Progress St., Dover, on Saturday, November 30, 10 - 11 a.m. A service celebrating Doris' life will follow at 11 in the church; Pastor Darian Troyer will officiate. Directly afterward, a meal will be shared, and burial will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Berlin Township Cemetery, off Edgar St. in Berlin.
