Doris M. (Leger) Vaillancourt, who celebrated her 100th birthday in October, lifelong Fitchburg resident, beloved wife, loving mother and Memere’ passed away peacefully at Sterling Village Nursing and Rehab Center while surrounded by her family.
Doris was born on October 30, 1923, the daughter of the late Fidele and Sarah (Veautour) Leger.
She was the wife of the late Herbey J. Vaillancourt, who passed away in 2005. They celebrated 62 years of marriage. Doris was also predeceased by her son Gary Vaillancourt, grandson Joshua Vaillancourt, daughter-in-law Leslie Vaillancourt, and sons-in-law Calixte Legendre and Kenneth Desjean. Also her 11 siblings, Helen Meeker, Jennie Dauphinais, Bill Leger, Felix Leger, Al Leger, her twin brother Jerry Leger, Lydia Theriault, Irene Salvatore, Peg Leger, Terry Rouleau and Claire Leger.
Doris is survived by her 8 children, which includes 3 sets of twins; Patricia Legendre, Gail Rousseau, wife of David, Janice Desjean, Janet Doughty, wife of Randy all of Fitchburg; Susan Horne, wife of David of Mattapoisett; Denise Curran, wife of John of South Dennis; Paula Ouellette and Paul Vaillancourt and his partner Sandra Taralli also of Fitchburg. Along with 23 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Connie Roux of Leominster.
Doris was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Fitchburg where she also taught CCD classes. She worked for many years at the former Foster Grant Company in Leominster. She enjoyed Bingo with her many friends and also enjoyed traveling with her husband to Aruba, Hawaii, California and London, England. Doris and Herbey spent several winters in the Florida Keys, where they made many friends from all over the country. She also actively participated for 10 years in the Gardner Relay for Life on team Herbey’s Harem.
Doris’ greatest joy was time spent with her large family. She especially loved the annual family Labor Day parties where she would sit with her cup of tea, laugh and enjoy all of her children, grandchildren and their extended families. She will be forever missed by all.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the entire staff at Sterling Village Nursing and Rehab Center for the wonderful care they provided Doris.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Doris for a period of visitation on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Brandon Funeral Home, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A christian mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 4, 2024, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 49 Woodland St, Fitchburg, MA, at 10:00 am, will burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 487 Clarendon St, Fitchburg, MA.
