In Loving Memory of Doris Jean Wingate
May 19, 1948 - January 24, 2025
Doris Jean Wingate, 76, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 19, 1948, in Greenville, she was the youngest of seven children to John Davis and Martha Ruby Ernest.
She was a beloved wife to James Edwin Wingate, for 57 years, and a proud mother to her three children, Ruby Renae Wingate, Kimberly Ann Wingate, and James Edwin Wingate. She was also a cherished grandmother to five grandchildren, Samantha, James (Trey), Julia, Andrew, and Hayden. She is survived by only one sibling, Betty Ritzus.
She dedicated her life to nurturing and caring for others, first as a devoted mother to her children and later as a loving grandmother. She sacrificed much of her career as a beautician and teacher's aide to be a constant and reliable mother and grandmother. She enjoyed attending church at Christ United Methodist, tending to her flower gardens, listening to music, beach trips, and family gatherings.
A celebration of Doris Jean's life will be held on Friday, January 31st, with visitation from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM and the service starting at 10:00 AM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home: 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, AL 36619.
Doris Jean will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
