Alice Wingate

Alice Faye Wingate (née Stripling) passed away peacefully the morning of January 23rd, 2026. She was 81 years old.

Alice was born in Moultrie, Georgia, to Mattie Lou Hammond Stripling and Howard Benoit Stripling, on June 1st, 1944. She was next to the youngest of 7 children.

Alice met her future husband, William, at Culbertson School when they were in the 1st grade together.

She achieved the highest level of recognition of the GA's (Girls in Action) at Hopewell Baptist Church.

While living in Moultrie, she worked at Jeter's S&L and Moultrie Federal.

Alice was married in June of 1964 to William Banks Wingate at Hopewell Baptist Church. After her husband was drafted in 1966, they moved to El Paso, Texas.

Her only daughter, Melissa, was born August of 1971.

She briefly attended Norman College, then graduated cum laude from Valdosta State University with a bachelor's in Business. She was fluent in Spanish, Latin, and shorthand. Alice was the first person in her family to attend and graduate college.

She, her husband and her daughter made a monumental move to Cobb County, Georgia, in August of 1979, where both Alice and her husband were employed by the Cobb County School System. She attended Smyrna First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for several years.

After teaching, Alice worked at C&S Bank, Cumberland branch, then had a career in the insurance field with Merritt & McKenzie, where she retired.

A generous, spirited woman and a fierce patriot, she enjoyed watching classic programming such as Gunsmoke, attending church regularly, Mexican cuisine, and coffee talk. Her favorite song to sing was 'A Bushel and a Peck'. Alice never failed to recognize her friends and family on special occasions. Her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes made an impact on everyone she met. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and proud grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, her daughter Melissa, (her husband Jimmy), and her grandchildren Emma and Ethan of Acworth, Georgia. She leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia, is in charge of arrangements.

There will be a graveside service at a date to be determined.
