FARR, Thomas Allen
Thomas Allen Farr went home to be with his Savior February 19, 2026 with his beloved family by his side. Tom was born September 6,1941 in
Charlotte, North Carolina to Mr. William Farr and Margaret Harris Farr and spent his childhood in Buckhead,
Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Duke University, a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
After college he joined the United States Navy where he obtained the rank of Commander. During the Vietnam War Tom served as First Lieutenant in charge of gunfire aboard the USS Massey, sailing through the Panama Canal to the Gulf of Tonkin in the South China Sea. He continued his service in the Naval Reserve and remained a retired member of the armed forces for the rest of his life.
Tom was an accomplished businessman with his banking career spanning 43 years. During his tenure he acquired many devoted customers and friends. Tom retired with the title of Group Vice President from Wells Fargo Bank in
Atlanta, Georgia.
Tom was an outdoorsman at heart. Spending time in nature was among his favorite pastimes, hiking in the woods while pausing along the trail to admire the details of God's creation. To say he stopped to smell the roses would be an understatement; Tom always took plenty of time to notice and appreciate the small things: moss growing on a tree or a rock; an interesting insect or animal; likewise he would stand still and quiet for minutes or hours to observe deer as they gracefully moved through the trees. Tom had a gentle demeanor toward all creatures in the wild and patience beyond measure; even hummingbirds would pause to land on his finger.
Tom was gifted with an abundance of creative talent. He was skilled in carpentry and landscaping and always took pride in his home and possessions. Whether working around the house, tending flower beds in the yard, or washing and waxing his cars by hand in the driveway, Tom was blessed with a tremendous amount of patience and attention to the intricacies of his surroundings.
Tom was also a talented writer and artist. Over the years he composed volumes of original poetry, short stories, and sketched countless unique and imaginative drawings.
Some of Tom's favorite adventures included ski trips in Colorado and Utah and hikes of Stone Mountain and Kennesaw Mountain in the Atlanta area, Mount Leconte in Tennessee, the Canyons of Arizona and Zion National Park in Utah where he trekked to Angels Landing, one of the most notable and challenging trails in the United States.
Later in life he enjoyed spending time with his family at the Gulf Coast of Florida where he often hiked from his beach place to the trails of Eastern Lake. He also enjoyed taking his family on special trips to the Caribbean on the Disney Cruise Line.
Tom's humor and wit never ceased to provide entertainment to his family, friends, and associates. He easily acquired new friends and acquaintances wherever he went, sharing his thoughts on topics of importance to him. Not often concerned with social norms he openly shared his views with others on politics and religion with gusto and a genuine heart of love.
He was proud of his three children and always encouraged them to use their God-given talents in pursuit of their dreams.
Tom is survived by his wife, Varese Farr; his daughters, Ashley Farr; Allison Farr Livingston; his son, Thomas Allen Farr, Jr; his granddaughter, Margaret Harris Livingston; brother, William "Bill" Farr (Linda); sister Mary Ellen Tarrants (Wayne); and many nieces and nephews.
