Dorothy Lorraine Kezar was born on November 8, 1924, in Middle River, Minnesota, to parents Sam and Amanda (Hanson) Kezar. She attended grade school and high school in Middle River, where she graduated in 1943, and then furthered her education at Moorhead State Teacher's College where she pursued a degree in elementary education. During the summer of 1944, Dorothy proudly worked as a "Rosie the Riveter," assembling the "Hellcat" carrier-based fighter aircraft of World War II at a Ford Motor plant in Dearborn, Michigan. After receiving her elementary education degree in 1945, Dorothy taught first grade for two years in New York Mills, four years in Mahnomen, and three years in St. Hilaire, Minnesota.
On June 24, 1950, Dorothy married Dean M. Anderson in Thief River Falls, where they made their home before a job transfer brought them to Glenwood in 1954. They had one daughter, Kim. In 1958, they moved into their newly-built home in rural Glenwood, where Dorothy lived until 2013 when she moved into the Plaza Townhomes, part of the Glenwood Retirement Village.
Dorothy was passionate about teaching and playing the piano. She enjoyed her career at E. N. Nordgaard Elementary (now Minnewaska Area Elementary), where she was a Title I teacher from 1966 until her retirement in 1992. Her interests included gardening, traveling, reading, and enjoying the woods and the stream on her property.
Dorothy died on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Glenwood Village Care Center, having lived to the age of 99 years. Her family is grateful for the heartfelt care she received from the staff at Glenwood Village Care Center and Glacial Ridge Hospice.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Kim (Barry) Kremin of Glenwood; two granddaughters, Sara (Kyle) Nestor of Glenwood and Krista (Mitch) Gosseling of Starbuck, four great-grandchildren, Riley, Connor, and Tanner Nestor, and Ellary Gosseling.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dean in 1994, her parents, Sam and Amanda Kezar, and brothers Don, Myron, Dennis, and Elworth.
