Obituary published on Legacy.com by Royal Funeral Home, Inc. - Jesup on Nov. 9, 2025.
Mother Dorothy Faye Lawrence Anderson was born on January 11, 1945, in Jesup, Wayne County, Georgia, to the late Oliver and Henrietta James-Lawrence. She was educated in the public school system and graduated in 1963 from Kissimmee High School in Kissimmee, Osceola County, Florida. Dorothy learned early in life the value of books and used them to educate herself and to escape the many trials she faced as a motherless child. Her hunger for knowledge coupled with a passion to care for others led her to a career in the healthcare field.
In 1963, following her high school graduation, Dorothy and her husband moved to
Jesup, Georgia where she began her family and career. She became a Nurse Assistant and was later recommended by her superiors for the License Practical Nurse program. Dorothy worked in that capacity until 1979 when she graduated from Broward Community College in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and became a Registered Nurse. While working as a Registered Nurse, Dorothy showed compassion, shared Jesus, inspired her co-workers and all who were committed to her care. Dorothy worked as a Registered Nurse until she retired in 2007 from the State of Florida Health Department.
Not only was Dorothy a source of encouragement as a caregiver, but she was also a beacon of light that inspired her family, friends and coworkers. Dorothy was a forerunner that blazed a trail of "You Can Do It", a blaze that inspired those she encountered to reach for higher heights. Dorothy was a loving, caring and attentive mother and grandmother and was affectionately known to her grandchildren as Mema.
She loved the Lord and knew Him at a very young age. Dorothy was a devout Christian and served many years under the leadership of Bishop Will A. Brantley of Pentecostal Temple Revival Center (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Elder Joseph P. Manning of Cathedral of Faith COGIC (Tallahassee, FL) and Apostle Dwayne C, Perry of True Sanctuary of Praise (Riverview, FL). Dorothy pursued God and while journeying with Jesus Christ, received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. She was committed to the ways of the Lord and served as a Mother in the church for over thirty years. Dorothy gave her life and talents to the Lord, serving as head mother of Cathedral of Faith and singing to the glory of God at True Sanctuary of Praise. Dorothy had a beautiful voice. She could jump in on any song and harmonize. She could "sang" and loved doing it.
Dorothy transitioned from this life on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Life Path Hospice House, in Sun City, Florida following a long illness. She was preceded in death by both parents, her brothers, Joe Nathan Lawrence and Ronnie Kelly Sr., her sisters, Ruby Fomunyam and Ollie Darden, and her husband, Haywood F. Anderson.
Dorothy leaves to treasure her love, legacy and memory, her loving children, Myra (Andrew), Stafano (Ahmadra) and Erika (Bertren); her granddaughters, Deondra (Arthur), Britine' (Terry), Andrea, Stephanie and Dorothy Grace; her grandsons, Avante', Jeremiah, Joshua and Gabriel; her great-grandson, Arthur Jr.; her special in-law (daughter), Kim Benton; her sister, Geraldine Latson; her brother, Donald Lawrence and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
