Dorothy Magdalene Bludau, 97, of Gonzales, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. She was born on July 10, 1928, in Gonzales to Aloys and Georgia Hagan Brzozowski, and she carried the values of faith, family, and hard work with her throughout her long and beautiful life.
Dorothy was a woman devoted to God and to her family. A lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church, she lived her faith daily through service with the St. James Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters, and the Bereavement Committee. She gave generously of her time and heart, always showing love for others in their moments of need.
She married the love of her life, Leslie A. Bludau, on August 13, 1946 and together they built a home that was filled with love, laughter, and delicious food. Dorothy was a magnificent homemaker whose kitchen was the heart of countless family traditions. She prepared meals daily with joy and devotion, but holidays were especially treasured, her Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter feasts were legendary. Her oatmeal cookies, known and loved by all who tasted them, truly earned the title of "the best ever."
Dorothy worked alongside her husband at the Bludau Sinclair Service Station, always showing her remarkable work ethic. But above all, her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She dearly loved each of them, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on at sporting events as she followed their lives with great pride. In quieter moments, she enjoyed watching her beloved Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees, and she found fun and adventure in traveling to casinos to try her luck at the slot machines.
Dorothy's family was the treasure of her life. She is survived by her sons, David Lynn Bludau and Tommy Glyn Bludau and wife Sara; grandchildren, Kyle Bludau and wife Stephanie, Ross Bludau and wife Tanner, and Reagan Akers and husband Zach; and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Kendall, Sawyer, Graham, and Avery. She is also survived by her nieces Donna Malik, Susie Selzer, and Dolores Warren; her nephew, Mike Brzozowski; and many great-nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
She was welcomed into paradise by her husband, Leslie A. Bludau; her parents; her sons, Leslie Gene Bludau and Gregory James Bludau; and her brothers, Mickey Brzozowski and Aloys Brzozowski, Jr.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Dorothy. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, with a Holy Rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church, with Father Jason Martini as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Bludau, Ross Bludau, Zach Akers, Danny Threadgill, Mike Brzozowski, and Darrell Malik.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. James Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters Association, or to the charity of one's choice.
Dorothy's life was one of faith, love, and service. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion to her family, her church, and her community, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wishes to thank Mary Akers for her loving care and kindness, the Heights of Gonzales, South Texas Hospice and Dr. Commie Hisey for their professionalism and devoted care.
