Dorothy Jean Colter, 66, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

Born on February 21, 1959, in Jefferson City to Robert and Gertrude (Bure) Blanks, Dorothy was a proud lifelong resident of her hometown. She graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1977 and, on September 16, 1978, married the love of her life, Thomas Benton "Benny" Colter. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family.

Dorothy dedicated more than 30 years to serving her community as the Activities Director for the Jefferson City Housing Authority. Her creativity, compassion, and energy touched countless lives throughout her career.

She found joy in crafting, deer hunting, and fishing, but nothing meant more to her than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life. A devoted sports fan, she faithfully cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of nearly 47 years, Thomas "Benny" Colter; her children, Thomas Michael Colter (Jessica) and Jennifer Lynn Colter; her sisters, Rita Kliethermes (Dan), Joyce Glass (Jim), and Mary Sanders; grandchildren, Sarah Colter, Kaitlyn Pearon, Michael Pearon, Ellyitt Colter, and Lydia Colter; and great-grandchildren, Racheal Sanford, Waylon Colter, Rubilynn Mcleod, Rosalie McGowen, and Kayden McNew.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m., with burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hartsburg.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association, honoring Dorothy's memory and her generous spirit.

Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main St.; Jefferson City, MO 65109. (573) 636-3838. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.millardfamilychapels.com
