Dorothy Janette Cox, 83, of Freeport, IL, passed away on August 12, 2025. She was born on October 1, 1941 in Freeport to Phil and Erma (Campbell) Fawver. She was a 1959 graduate of Freeport High School and a 1984 graduate of Rockford College, where she received her bachelor's degree. She married David L. Cox on April 16, 1961. She worked for the Freeport School District and later Culver's restaurant. She was a member of Park Hills Evangelical Church. Her interests included plays and choir at the Winneshiek and Highland Community College. She was a Sunday school teacher at Park Hills for 20 years. Survivors include her two children: David A. Cox and Jennifer L. Simmons (Cox); son-in-law Percy C. Simmons, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister Kay Koester from Utah, nephew Phil Koester and niece Debbie Koester. She was preceded in death by her parents Phil & Erma Fawver, and her husband David Lee Cox. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday September 8, 2025, from 2PM – 6PM, at the Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd in Freeport, IL. Private interment at Oakland Cemetery.
