Dorothy Eunice Curwick

Dorothy Curwick of Rush City passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at her home at the age of 94.

Dorothy Eunice Sandling was born March 22, 1930 to Eugene and Alice (Pendarvis) Sandling in Lancaster, Texas. She was the 12th of 13 children. She was the last survivor.

At the age of 15, Dorothy met and married the love of her life George Leo Curwick, who was stationed there in the US Navy. They were married on January 23, 1946. Dorothy’s work is described in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as Homemaker. The definition: "a person who manages the household of their own family, especially as a principal occupation." She worked around the clock caring for her family. Imagine the weekly loads of laundry.

They lived in Marshall and Ghent, Minnesota. They moved to North Saint Paul in the 60’s, and then to Webster, Wisconsin in the 70’s, where they finished raising their family. They lived with and loved each other for 78 years until her death on May 30, 2024. Together they had 12 children whom carried on the legacy of 156 immediate family members.

Dorothy was loved dearly by her husband, children, extended family and friends. She and Bud spent many years traveling to the south to spend the winter in Austin, Mission and Rio Grande City, Texas, where they had their “factory in the south”, putting together over one thousand quilts to give away at the Benedictine Monastery where they stayed. They only stopped during the Covid shutdown and Bud decided he could no longer make the drive. They spent summers in Rush City. Their final home was with son Joe and his wife Brenda.

Dorothy had an eternal love and devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ first, Dad was 2nd, but she also enjoyed reading, sewing, embroidery, crocheting dish rags, jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles, baking banana bars and making potato salad, gardening and thrift stores, always keeping herself and her hands busy. She loved spending time with her beloved family, especially those babies.

Dorothy is survived by her husband George "Bud" Curwick of Rush City; children Shirley (Bill) Wald of St. Paul, Judy (John) Digaetano of White Bear Lake, Patricia Curwick of Rush City, Richard (Vicki) Curwick of Liberty Hill, Texas, Rita (Steve) Moynagh of Stacy, Joseph (Brenda) Curwick of Rush City, David (Debbie) Curwick of Anacortes, Washington, Thomas (Renee) Curwick of Lino Lakes, Caroline (Ken) Kirchberg of Rush City, Mark (Barbara) Curwick of Maple Grove, Jane (Chuck) Borg of Webster, Wisconsin; 48 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; in-laws James Curwick, Gene and Barb Curwick, Rosemary and Gene Bakke; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Alice Sandling; daughter Laura Leary; grandchildren James Robert Digaetano, Danielle Osborne, Sarah Curwick, Kimberly Curwick, Jordan Hubbard; brothers and sisters Claude and Clarice Sandling, Henry Sandling, Albert and Cora Sandling, Oscar and Ruby Sandling, Homer and Dorothy Sandling, Jack and Dera Sandling, Annie Sandling, Doll and Ernie Bowman, Maudie and Troy Parks, Jane and Robert Rayburn, Robert and Shirley Sandling, Gladys and Clifford Marrs, Harvey Pendarvis; in-laws Elmer and Louise Schrunk, Donna and Tom Thomas, Doris and Don Lawson, Donald and Gloria Curwick, Winnie Curwick; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Father Matt Shireman will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy: 11 AM; Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City. A time for family and friends to gather will take place one hour prior to the Mass at the church. A luncheon in Wey Hall will follow the service at approximately 1:30 PM. We will then proceed to Sacred Hearts Cemetery at Crescent Lake, 28460 County Rd H, Webster, Wisconsin, where Dorothy will be met by Father Frances Adoboli who shall lay her to rest.
