Oakdale-Celebration of Life services honoring Dorothy Henry Fontenot, 69, will be held on Saturday morning, March 22, 2025, at 11 o'clock a.m. at Bread of Life Christian Center in Oakdale. Rev. Wiley Shaw will officiate. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Happy Hills Cemetery in Eunice, LA immediately following her services.
Dorothy's family will receive friends and visitors at Bread of Life Christian Center in Oakdale on Saturday morning, March 22, 2025, from 10 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of Dorothy's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.
Dorothy Fontenot was born in Lafayette, LA on April 14, 1955, to the union of Bolton and Hester T. Denton. She was called home by her savior on March 17, 2025, at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA with her loving family by her side. Dorothy was a faithful and devoted wife to her husband, Dora L. Fontenot for 19 years. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She was a faithful member of the Church of God in Christ in Oakdale, LA under the pastoral leadership of Elder Abram. At the time of her departure, she was an active member of Bread of Life Christian Center in Oakdale, LA under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Wiley Shaw where she attended church regularly. Dorothy was a graduate of Oakdale High School and went on to continue her education at nursing school in Lake Charles, LA. She would the gain employment with Oakdale Community Hospital in Oakdale, LA, where her tenure would last for 30 years, where she served diligently as a Certified Nurse's Assistant. Dorothy was an outstanding caregiver and was very dedicated to her patients as well as having a profound love for helping others. She was a very loving, compassionate and caring person and will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish Dorothy's memory include her husband Dora L. Fontenot; two daughters, Janet Henry and Anita Simpkins and husband Seth; one brother, Bolton Denton Jr., three sisters, Hester Caesar and husband Taylor, Melissa Isles and husband Steven, and Lettie Allen and husband Robert; one granddaughter, Saleah Simpkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Bolton and Hester Thomas Denton; her first husband and father of her children, Walter Henry Jr.; two brothers, James and David Denton, and one sister, Barbara Moreaux.
