In Loving Memory of Dorothy Hazel Freeman

December 7, 1933 – October 6, 2025

Dorothy Hazel (Cooper) Freeman passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on December 7, 1933, in Story, Arkansas, she was the beloved daughter of Roderick L. and Ruby J. Cooper.

Dorothy's family moved to Houston, Texas, where she spent most of her childhood. She met the love of her life, JC Freeman, in the seventh grade. Their friendship and JC's frequent teasing blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were married in 1954.

A proud cheerleader at Jefferson Davis High School, Dorothy went on to attend secretarial school and began her professional journey at Exxon Mobil. She later dedicated many years of service to the Klein Independent School District, where she made lasting contributions and lifelong friendships.

Dorothy and JC briefly moved to Colorado but spent the majority of their lives in Houston, where they were active members of Garden Oaks Baptist Church and later Champion Forest Baptist Church. In 2005, they moved to Spokane, Washington, to be closer to their grandchildren. She hosted many sleepovers, provided countless "Mimi" cookies, and supported her grandchildren in innumerable ways. Dorothy became a cherished member of South Hill Bible Church, where she joyfully served in the AWANA children's ministry.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, JC Freeman; her daughter, Susan Ruby, and son-in-law, Darrell Ruby. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Jessica (and Zachery) Kinney, Laura Ruby (and Brit Pascoe), and Luke Ruby-each of whom brought her endless joy and pride. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Cooper. His children remained close in her heart, no matter the distance.

Dorothy will be remembered for her deep faith, her love for family, her warm spirit, and her willingness to serve others. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A Visitation will be held at Hennessey Funeral Home and Crematory Friday, October 17, 2025 at 2PM. Her Funeral Service will be at South Hill Bible Church ( 958 E. 29th Ave, Spokane, WA, 99203) at 11 am with a reception to follow. The Committal Service will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace following the reception at 2:30 pm.
