Dorothy Jean Gossett of Gonzales, Texas, joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Gonzales on November 22, 1930, Dorothy lived a long and fulfilling life rooted in faith, service, and love.
Dorothy proudly served in Lampasas County as a peace officer alongside her husband Sherriff Walter Bryce Gossett. She also worked as a blue angel at Gonzales Memorial Hospital, where she compassionately helped patients during their recovery process. Her dedication to her community extended through her work with the Gonzales County Constable Precinct 1 Office under Ken Hedrick, the law firm of Munson & Burns, and West Motors.
A true homemaker at heart, Dorothy found joy in homesteading, cooking, baking, and canning. Her grandson Frank Jr. fondly remembers her delicious buttermilk pie and the pickles she lovingly canned-treasured family traditions that live on in memory. Dorothy had a deep love for flowers, whether planting them in her garden or receiving them as thoughtful gifts. She delighted in simple pleasures like bingo and scratch-off lottery tickets, always with a cheerful spirit.
Her unwavering faith in the Lord was the foundation of her life. Dorothy lived by grace, drawing strength from her relationship with God. She now rests in her eternal home, welcomed by angels and embraced by everlasting peace. Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and cherished memories. Her life was a testament to love, faith, and service, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son Frank Eugene Akins, Sr. and her grandson Frank Eugene Akins, Jr. She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Walter Bryce Gossett, daughter in law Eva Judith Akins and her parents.
