Mrs. Dorothy Mae Hall, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at her home in Iva, South Carolina.
Dorothy attended New Deal High School up to the 11th grade. At the age of 16, Dorothy migrated to New York City to care for an ill great-aunt. She completed her high school education at Yorkville High School in Manhattan (NYC). As a member of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), Dorothy became an enthusiastic world traveller, visiting over 50 countries during her lifetime of travels. She retired from Calvary Hospital in the Bronx after 25 years of service as a medical transcriptionist.
Dorothy migrated back to Iva, South Carolina, in 1992. She became a member of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in Anderson. Dorothy also continued to work as a medical transcriptionist at Abbeville Area Medical Center until her retirement in 2018.
Dorothy Mae leaves to cherish her memory, son, Carl Antonio Hall of Orange, NJ; her two sisters Mary Lou Oliver (Jesse Oliver, Sr.), Velories Reed; sister-in-law, Doris Reed; five nieces, Stephanie Reed Joseph, Stacey Steward (Terence Steward), Tessia Reed, Nikki Reed, Christine Worrell Ware (Rodney Ware); two nephews, Andre Worrell (Sheila), Micheal Reed (Jameelah); along with two aunts (Rosa & Martha Ann Richardson) and a host of other family members.
Dorothy Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Carrie Lou and Sylvester Reed, Sr.; two brothers, Sylvester Reed, Jr., and Harry Reed (Carolyn); one sister, Brenda Reed; and her husband, Carlisle Hall.
Services
Mass of Christian Burial - 9 A M - Thursday at St. Mary's of the Angels Catholic Church, Anderson, SC.
Funeral - 11 A M - Thursday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Starr, SC, with burial at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Public viewing is on Wednesday from 2:00 pm - 6 :00 pm at D. B. Walker Funeral Services.
The family is at the home, 128 Sherrard Road, Iva, SC.
