AULANDER, NC - Dorothy Kearney Hall, aged 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at her home in Aulander, North Carolina, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on June 14, 1955, in San Diego, California, she was a cherished daughter of the late Rufus Howard Kearney and Thelma Glass Beidel Kearney.
Throughout her life, Dorothy held a variety of roles, ranging from retail to education, where she touched many lives with her kindness and dedication. Despite her professional endeavors, it was in her personal life where she truly shined. Dorothy had a deep appreciation for nature, often found tending to her garden and caring for her beloved plants. She relished every opportunity to be outdoors, especially spending time at the beach, which held a special place in her heart. Dorothy will be remembered fondly for her vibrant spirit, her love for dancing, and the nurturing care she provided to her family and plants alike. Her legacy of love and joy will continue to flourish in the hearts of those she has left behind.
Above all, Dorothy's greatest joy was her family. Her love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds. She was a devoted mother to Bri-Anna Edwards (William) of Colerain, NC, Adam Hapgood (Pamela) of Wilmington, NC, Brittney Dunlow (David) of Askewville, NC, and Audrey Edwards (Bo) of Ahoskie, NC. She was the proud "Kay Kay" of her grandchildren, Cloey Edwards, Colton Edwards, Dallas Edwards, Brady Hapgood, Isaac Dunlow, Levi Dunlow, and Jase Edwards.
Dorothy shared a beautiful life with her loving husband, Greg. Together, they enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including dancing, which brought them both much happiness.
Dorothy is also survived by her sister, Margaret Kosar of Jacksonville, NC; her brothers, Michael Kearney of Maple Hill, NC, and Matthew Kearney (Betty) of Chesapeake, VA; and her mother-in-law, Becky Hall of Aulander. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, all of whom will dearly miss her warmth and spirit.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Thelma and Rufus Kearney; her son, Justin Matthews; and her brother, William Kearney.
A family will have a private celebration of Dorothy's life at a later date. The family will receive friends at the home.
