Dorothy (Reifsnyder) Huber, 92, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, at Rittenhouse Village of Muhlenberg. Previously a resident of Shillington, she was the sixth of nine children born to the late Clayton and Eva (Weidner) Reifsnyder, and was the wife of James Huber, who predeceased her in 1991. They shared 40 years of marriage.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Huber (wife Ginger), Lake Placid, New York, and daughter, Dorothy "Dottie" (Huber) Heller (husband William), Temple. Her son John Huber predeceased her in 1995 (wife Kathy, Sewickley, PA). Dot was Mom Mom to nine grandchildren: James, Jennifer, Jeremiah, Jessica (deceased 2021), Amanda, Cassidy, Jahnee, Robert and Roxanne, as well as twelve great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Ruth (Reifsnyder) Rack (husband Robert), Tucson, Arizona, and a host of nieces and nephews, who all loved their Aunt Dot immensely! She was predeceased by siblings Clayton, Caroline, Eva, Arlene, Raymond, Floyd and Sara. Although determined to be the last one of the nine still standing, she forfeited the contest and gave that honor to her sister. You win, Ruthie! Dot was ready to sing her way through Heaven's gates, and so she did!
Dorothy grew up attending the Reading schools, but chose the Lancaster Mennonite School for her senior year, graduating in 1949. The long-time office/accounting manager for Suburban Dodge, Shillington, she then continued accounting services for Rothrock Suburban Dodge, J. D. Byrider and Reading Audi/Volkswagen, while also serving as a notary public. Dot loved working and never wanted to give it up, only surrendering to full retirement in 2017, at age 85. Even at 92, she would still giggle and ask, "Do they need any help where you work?"
Always a busy lady, she was a past president of the Reading Soroptimist International professional business women's organization. She was also involved with the Prison Ministry of Yoke Fellowship and a member of the Berks County Prison Society where, through her prison ministry, she brought the Word of God to incarcerated individuals. Her impact was amazing, lives were changed, and the success stories made her smile; she saw this as a highlight in her life's work. Dorothy visited Israel several times, traveled to many countries on mission trips, and distributed essential items to orphanages and the homeless population. She enjoyed attending Christian retreats and conferences while involved with the Blue Mountain Christian Retreat Center, the End Time Handmaidens & Servants, the International Prophecy Conference, the Life Center in Harrisburg, and Women Aglow.
Dorothy always thanked God for guiding her, at age 9, to the Fairview Mennonite Church, Reading, where she said wonderful people taught her God's Word as the way of life we should all strive to live. Having gone to multiple churches over the years, she most recently attended Hope for the Nations Christian Center, Reading, and continued to host monthly Sunday afternoon fellowship gatherings in her home.
Dot loved to sing, write poems and stories, and she loved her candy (we were still finding hidden stashes)! Dot's circle of family, friends, associates and acquaintances was enormous, to which her sister Sara would always exclaim, "Everybody loves Dorothy!"
A beautiful soul, filled with love and light, her heart overflowed with kindness. She set the example for treating others the way we would all want to be treated, and her faith and trust in God guided her every footstep. Dorothy maintained her pretty smile and infectious giggle through her final earthly days, bearing her pain with dignity and grace. Without a doubt, she is singing with the Angels.
Dot was an advocate for simple acts of kindness, saying they cost nothing to give, but are priceless to receive. In her memory, simply be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment in Christ Yocom Lutheran Church Cemetery, Grill. The Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Shillington is assisting the Huber family. www.kleefuneralhome.com
