Evelyn M. Shaar

Evelyn Mae (Lehman) Shaar, 84, died on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Landis Homes, Lititz.
Born on November 1, 1940, in Lampeter, she was the daughter of the late Lester Mark and Elva Mae (Groff) Lehman. She was the widow of Gary Shaar, whom she married in 1979.
Evelyn, often known as Evie, graduated from Lancaster Mennonite School in 1958, after attending schools in Lampeter and Leola. After a few years of candling eggs, Evie chose a career with Mennonite Central Committee headquarters, Akron. She loved cooking in that international setting, including testing recipes for the More-with-Less Cookbook. After 25 years she retired as kitchen manager. She also enjoyed three "adventure years" in voluntary service cooking at Laurelville Mennonite Camp (PA), Adriel Home for Children (OH), Penn Alps (MD), and childcare at Immokalee (FL). She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Ephrata.
She is survived by two sisters, Anna Lois Lehman, Loretta (Patrick) Collins; three brothers, Milton (Lois Garber) Lehman, Glenn (Dorcas Miller) Lehman, Melvin Lehman (Susan Miller); two nieces, Angela Lehman, Sarah (Ryan) Schrock; two nephews, Christopher (Bonnie Unrau) Lehman, Joel (Stephanie Miller) Lehman; and nine great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:30 AM, at West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
