Dorothy O. Koziak April 24, 1925 – March 23, 2025 Highland Falls, NY
Dorothy O. Koziak of Highland Falls, NY passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh, NY on March 23, 2025, at the age of 99 years old. Daughter of the late Daniel and Zola (Talmadge) Donnelly, she was born in Yonkers, NY on April 24, 1925.
Dorothy, known to many as Doris, held several positions in various fields. During World War II she was a riveter assembling airplane wings. She was a Retail Accountant, a school Secretary (to the Principal), the co-owner of Highland Needlecraft, and ultimately retired as the Assistant Manager at the USMA Bookstore. She spent many years dedicated to volunteering her time throughout the village: as a member of the Highlander Senior Citizens, she held several positions over many years; a 'Friends of the Library' member, a Sacred Heart Church volunteer (CCD teacher); Orange County Nutrition Program member (Meals on Wheels), a member of the original Community Action Group for Impact Aid assisting local HFFMCSD, and as a Board Member for the Garrison Union Free School.
Doris was a talented painter, sewer, knitter, quilter, and Native American beader. She was a singer in a group called the Chanticleers and a member of the Thursday Night Ladies Bowling League. After she and Erwin were both retired they spent a lot of time traveling in the U.S. and to Canada & Ireland. In her later years, Doris enjoyed spending time with her 'Friday Lunch Bunch' and playing Mahjong.
She is survived by her son Jon Koziak of Highland Falls, NY; daughter-in-law Lee Ann Ranieri (James) and grandsons: Thomas Koziak (Kristen) and Daniel Koziak (Jillian). Dorothy's legacy lives on through her five great-grandchildren: Tommy, Charlotte, Everly, Jax, and River.
In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband Erwin Koziak, her son Thomas Raymond, her daughter Doris Ann, and her brother Norman Donnelly. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to: The Kaplan Family Hospice Staff, The New Windsor Country Inn Staff, and Marty Byrnes for all of the love, kindness, caring and attention given to Doris.
There will be no visitation. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Sacred Heart Church, 353 Main St., Highland Falls, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's name may be made to either: Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, https://hospiceoforange.com/kaplan-residence/, Sacred Heart Church www.sacredheart-highlandfalls.org, or to Highland Falls Library www.highlandfallslibrary.org.
