Bayview/Freeborn Funeral HomeDorothy Ann Larson , 92, passed away at the Benedictine Care Community in Owatonna, MN on Sunday, February 22, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday March 3, 2026 at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Ryan Stevenson-Gosgrove will be officiating.
Dorothy was born on January 18, 1934 to Jens and Minnie Nelson on the family farm in Ellendale, MN. On March 12, 1950, she married Donald E. Larson at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. After they were married, they worked the family farm just south of Albert Lea. In 1965, they moved to Ellendale, and returned to the farm where she was born at. Together, they had three children, Donald, Glen and Jody.
She was a hard worker, making sure everything on the family farm ran smoothly. She was also very caring, with a huge heart. She helped raise many welfare children, and later in life worked at the Prairie Manor Care Center, the Good Samaritan Society, and the Steele County Home Health helping to take care of the elderly. Dorothy loved to hunt and fish. Donald and she would frequently travel to their cabin up north to relax. On Saturday nights, she would watch the Lawernce Welk show and go dancing to the waltzes and polkas. Also on Saturdays and even Sundays, she would frequent the antique shops and auction sales looking for anything interesting. They would also take trips to visit relatives in Montana. She also enjoyed gardening and going on motorcycle rides in the sidecar of her Harley-Davidson Superbee. But most of all, she loved caring for all of her pets, even having a pet fox named Georgia when she was growing up.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Donald; her children, Donald C Larson, Glen (Brenda) Larson, and Jody (special friend Duane Johnson) Hauser. Grandchildren Daniel (special friend Gale Wiemer-Scheuerman) Larson, Donald Larson, Beth (Matt) Mierstein, Scott Larson, Anne (Jon) Putnam, Adam (Tabitha) Reese, and Dustin (Jessi) Hauser. Great-grandchildren Jacob Larson, Alivia Putnam, Larson Putnam, Alexia Miller, Adalynn Reese, Rylee Hauser, Kyler Hauser, Nalah Hauser, and Jaelynn Hauser; her 3 great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Jens and Minnie Nelson; and her brother M.R. Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the First Lutheran Peace and Power program.
The service will be live-streamed, and can be watched from the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home Facebook page at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/share/1Am89HCwxz/
