Dorothy Madelyn Lenore passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday,
March 6, 2024, just three weeks before her 94th birthday. In her 93 years of life, she was a
beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dorothy leaves behind her son Jay,
Jamie, and his wife Michelle, as well as her seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She has joined her husband, John, daughter, Pam, and daughter-in-law, Lynda, in heaven.
Born to Frances and Meade Marshall, Dorothy came from humble beginnings on the
small island of
Wheeling, West Virginia, in the middle of the Ohio River. She lovingly referred to
her hard-working mother as "St. Frances," who raised her and her three sisters, Betty, Eileen, and
Joanie, while working at the local library. Her mother instilled an unwavering belief in God and
strong family values.
Dorothy met her match when she met John Paul Lenore, the love of her life, at a
Wheeling Park dance. Within a year, they were married. In search of a better life, they moved to
California with just $300 in their pockets and, unbeknownst to them, a daughter on the way! In
the following years came their son, Jay, and their son, Jamie. Dorothy and John became leaders
in the beverage industry with The John Lenore Company, Logret Imports & Exports in San
Diego, California, and Cold Springs Brewing in Cold Springs, Minnesota.
Dorothy developed a love for horses due to their son Jamie's success in showing and
riding horses. She and John went on to successfully breed Saddlebred horses at their farm in
Versailles, Kentucky.
Along with horses, she loved her animals, especially her King Charles Cavaliers and her
Ragdoll cat, Jonny. When Dorothy wasn't involved in the horse farm or discussing the beverage
business with John, she was busy with her needlepoint. She was exceptionally talented and loved
sharing her needlepoint gift with others, but most of all, she loved just being with her family and
friends. Whether it was at her grandkid's baseball, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, or hockey games,
she would be there! It wasn't unusual to see her bundled up, rooting on one of her grandsons in
an ice hockey rink in her 90s!
Dorothy's love for family was also shown at her holiday meals. No one left feeling
hungry! She loved to cook for those she cared about, bringing her as much joy as it did for those
eating her meals.
Wherever she went, Mom made friends. She loved people, and they loved her, especially
children. She always smiled at everyone and made it a point to ask how others were doing.
Her family and her faith in God were central to her life. Dorothy was a devout Catholic
who often reminded us to "Let Go. Let God." Knowing her work was done here on earth,
Dorothy Madelyn Lenore looked forward to joining her love, John, her daughter, Pam, and
daughter-in-law, Lynda. She led a life surrounded by blessings, and she was grateful for every
one. Dorothy, aka "Dot," "mom," also known as "Grammy," will be dearly missed by all those
whose lives she touched.
"You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You."
