Dorothy A. Madea, 98, of Cherryville, passed away peacefully Sunday January 25, 2026, in her sleep at her son’s home. Born June 30, 1927, in Allentown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Reuben H. and Hattie (Bilheimer) Musselman. Dorothy was the wife of the late Michael G. Madea with whom she shared 72 years of marriage prior to his death on April 10, 2018.
Dorothy was employed at Cross Country Clothing in Egypt for over 25 years, prior to retiring in 1989. She was a member of Zion’s Stone U.C.C. Church, Kreidersville, PA. Dorothy loved spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed traditional family gatherings. Dorothy’s favorite pastime was decorating for the holidays; Christmas was her favorite. She also enjoyed spending time in her gardens, painting ceramics and working on puzzles.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Karen (Madea) Spangler of Northampton, PA, son, David Madea and his wife, Valerie of Northampton, PA, (with whom she resided for 3 years), daughter-in-law, Dagmar Hartman of Slatington. Dorothy has 5 grandchildren, Erika Unger, Stacie Spangler-Coffey, Cortney Slager, Nicole Lohrman, and Jarad Madea, 8 great-grandchildren, Michael, Emily and Zachary Unger: Madison and Brynn Lohrman, Riley and Riggs Slager, Lincoln Madea, and 2 step grandchildren, Preston and Brandon Max. She has many loving nieces and nephews. Dorothy is also survived by foster brothers, Henry and Robert Schirmacher and James Musselman. She was predeceased by her son, Michael R. Madea in 2003, son-in-law Ronald Spangler in 2020, brother, Clayton Musselman, and her sister Winifred J. (Musselman) Riegel (1994).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM at Zion’s Stone U.C.C. Church, Kreidersville, PA on Friday January 30, 2026. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the services in the church. Rev, Michael Landsman will officiate. Interment will follow in Zion Cemetery, Kreidersville, PA. Schisler Funeral Home, Northampton, PA is in charge of arrangements.
Her family would like to thank Lehigh Valley Hospice, and her niece, Sandra Zdepski, who spent the last several months helping to care for her.
