Dorothy A. Rueter, age 100 years and eleven months, of Hoffman, passed away peacefully at Fireside House in Centralia on Friday, August 29, 2025.

Dorothy was born at her home in Hoffman on September 30, 1924, a daughter of the late Henry and Emma (Rueter) Nottmeyer. She married Donaldt E. Rueter on April 3, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman and he preceded her in death on August 2, 2011.

Mrs. Rueter is survived by her sons, James D. Rueter and wife Terri, and Curtis L. Rueter and wife Helen, all of Centralia; her grandchildren, Nathan Rueter and wife Kristin of Aviston, Bradley Rueter and wife Tisha of Mt. Vernon, and Tyler Rueter and wife Traci of Centralia; her great grandchildren, Dawson Rueter, Jena Rueter, Trey Bruce, Tejay Bruce, Lincoln Rueter, and Reagan Rueter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donaldt, and a brother, Paul Nottmeyer.

Dorothy was a devoted homemaker and, earlier in life, worked at Wee Walker Shoe Factory for a short time. A lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, her faith was a steady foundation throughout her life. She had a gift for working with her hands and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, and refinishing furniture. Dorothy also loved tending her gardens, canning the harvest, and filling her home with the beauty of the many flowers she grew. She had a keen eye for antiques and enjoyed attending auctions and sales in search of treasures.

A Funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 8700 Huey Rd, Hoffman, IL on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Brett Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Hoffman. Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and on Wednesday morning prior to the service from 9:00 – 11:00 AM.
