Dorothy Schnulle Obituary

Dorothy Schnulle, 102, of Elgin, IL, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on October 9, 2025, at Bickford of Rockford, IL. She was born May 17, 1923, in Elgin, IL, to the late Fred and Matilda Fehrman.

Dorothy was a mother at an early age and spent much of her early years finding jobs to support her two sons, Gerald ("Jerry") and Ronald (predeceased). She worked as a waitress, a factory worker, and, along with her sister, proudly served as one of the World War II "Rosie the Riveters," contributing to the nation's wartime efforts.

In 1948, she married Gordon Schnulle (predeceased), a decorated World War II veteran. With Gordon, she had two additional sons, Keith and Kevin. Gordon's military background kept them deeply involved in local service and veterans' organizations, especially the VFW, where Dorothy remained active and proud throughout her life. On her 100th birthday, she was honored by Three Star Lt. General H. Stacy Clardy with a spousal service pin for Veterans of WWII - a moment she cherished deeply.

Dorothy was known for her practical spirit and keen sense of value. She loved finding a good bargain at garage sales and was an expert at couponing, always ready to share her latest deals and savings.

After Gordon's passing in 2019, Dorothy moved into Bickford of Rockford, where she developed many close friendships. She became known for her winning streaks at bingo and her quick mind during word games.

Even in her final days, Dorothy retained her remarkable sharp memory.

The family extends special thanks to the compassionate Bickford staff and to Mercyhealth Hospice for their attentive care. A heartfelt thank-you also goes to the long-time friendship and support shown by the Abate Family, Lt General Clardy and Diane Ahrens.

Dorothy is survived by her sons Gerald (Marilyn) Lang, Keith (Debra) Schnulle, and Kevin (Pat) Schnulle; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Fred Olson Funeral Chapel, 1001 2nd Avenue, Rockford, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. To share a memory or condolence, please visit www.olsonfh.com
