Marilyn Larson Obituary

Marilyn J. Larson, 98, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Born August 31, 1927, in Rockford, the daughter of Lynn and Lois (Taylor) Cate. Graduate of West High School and Beloit College where she was a member of Tri Delta Sorority and Phi Beta Kappa. Marilyn married Arne G. Larson on August 14, 1949. He predeceased her on May 22, 2011. She owned and operated The Fireworks. Marilyn was a member of Court Street Methodist Church. She was an avid tennis player and traveled with Arne to all the Major tennis tournaments, completing the grand slam. She and Arne were also world travelers.

Survived by her children, Marcia (Lou Liebovich) Larson, Terry (Donn) Herbig, Lori (Vernon) Smith and Arne "Todd" Larson; grandchildren, Doug (Lindsay) Claxton, Arne (Erin) Claxton, Donna (Brad) Blecker, Lars (Sarah) Noble, Will Smith, Bailey Smith, Cole Larson, Matt (Kye) Smith and Doug (Sheryl) Smith; and great-grandchildren, Leif & Josie Claxton, Kaitlyn Russell, Bailee Blecker, Cal & Tatum Smith, Nate, Brady & Danielle Smith, and Tate Bleakley. Also predeceased by her parents; and sister, JoAnn Oldenberg.

Private family services were held. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. To share a memory or condolence, please visit www.olsonfh.com
