Dorothy June Smith, 96, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Brickyard Care Center-La Porte.
She was born January 24, 1928 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Herbert L. and Edna (Wildt) Messman.
On May 11, 1948, in Knox, Indiana, Dorothy married the love of her life, Willis H. Smith, who preceded her in death on May 27, 2011. A lifelong resident of the area, Dorothy was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, adult coloring books and watching her favorite "soaps" on TV.
She is survived by her three sons, Dennis L. (Barbara) Smith of La Porte, IN, James A. (Londa) Smith of La Porte, IN, Mark H. (Bonnie) Smith of Fish Lake, IN; two sisters, Virginia Budd of Walkerton, IN, Marilyn Barger of La Porte, IN; brother, Charles Schadowsky of La Porte, IN; three grandchildren, Bryan (Shannon) Smith of Union Mills, IN, Jennifer Smith of La Porte, IN, Michelle (Rob) McFredrick of Kingsford Heights, IN; great-grandchildren Allison Smith of South Bend, IN, Hannah (Josh) Trim of Elkhart, IN, Madison Curry of Kingsford Heights, IN and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband of 63 years, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clarence Messman, brother, Willard Messman and daughter, Sheila Smith.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends for a viewing on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 10:00a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
