Farus Funeral Home of Duncan FallsDorothy Louise Smith, 65, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Genesis Hospice Morrison House, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born on March 16, 1960, in Zanesville, the daughter of Cecil Smith Sr. and the late Gertrude Daisy Dean (Criswell) McKee.
She was formerly employed at PCC Airfoils in Crooksville and later dedicated several years of compassionate service as a caregiver. Dorothy had a heart for others, both people and animals alike.
She cherished time spent with her family and adored her beloved dogs, Teddy and Muggzzee. Dorothy enjoyed attending Columbus Blue Jackets games and took great pride in gardening, especially caring for her beautiful lilac flowers. She found joy in watching hummingbirds and loved going to coin and toy shows with her boyfriend, Gary. Shopping trips to thrift stores with her daughters were special times she treasured.
Dorothy had a fondness for Garfield the cat and delighted in playing games with her family and hosting family dinners. She had a special passion for rescuing animals of all kinds, always opening her heart and home to those in need.
In addition to her father, Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Clorissa Potts and Sierra (Evan) Madinger; her adopted daughters, Janet (Charles) Battle and Makenzie Wilson; her adopted grandchildren, Gabby and Gracie; and Keiron and Covin ; her significant other, Gary Hypes; her siblings, Thelma (Billy) Smith, Cecil (Cindy) Smith Jr., and Jon (Dede) Smith; her bonus daughter, Brittney (Mike Brooks) Hypes; her bonus granddaughter, Cambrie; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; many dear friends; and her beloved pets, Teddy, Callie, and Dakota.
In addition to her mother, Dorothy was preceded in death by her grandma and grandpa Criswell; and her nephew, Mikey Miller.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place. A gathering of friends and celebration of her life will be held at 12 to 5 pm on March 6, 2026, at the Wayne Township Hall, 216 Bridge Street, Duncan Falls.
