Dorothy Virginia Southerland

Dorothy V. Southerland, of Durant, OK passed away at her home on Thursday, October 31, 2025, at the age of 94. Dorothy was one of six kids born to Henry Edward Perkins and Alma (Windsor) Perkins on May 19, 1931, in Franklin, Texas. She graduated from Ridge High School in Ridge, TX then attended college at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Dorothy married Curtis Loyd Southerland in Franklin, TX on February 22, 1951, and was a homemaker and caretaker for nine children. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, books, crosswords, and fixing things.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Henry and Alma Perkins, Husband Curtis Loyd Southerland, stepson Jimmy Southerland, stepdaughter Jerry Kay, granddaughter Betti Ragsdale, grandson Kirk Bates, three brothers Donald Perkins, Marshall Perkins, and Clifford Perkins, sister Juanita, and a son-in-law Ronnie Bates.
Dorothy is survived by her children Virginia Airington and husband Will of Durant, OK, Sue Bates of Sherman, TX, Ernest "Buster" Louis Southerland and Peggy of Temple, TX, James Southerland of Durant, OK, Jean Paz and David of Las Vegas, NV, Sandy Hampton of Durant, OK, Pattie McCurley of Durant, one brother Floyd Perkins, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and other loving family and friends.
A family memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 1927 North Lone Oak at 12:00 P.M. Please contact family for more information.
