Dorothy Stewart

Dorothy Dell Stewart (née Harrower), age 94, of Elmira Heights, NY, was born on December 31, 1930, and passed away peacefully at home in Horseheads, NY, surrounded by her loving children.

Dorothy was the beloved daughter of Harry Harrower and Betty VanDusen-Harrower. She was a devoted mother to her son Victor Mettler and daughter Debra Mettler, and a cherished stepmother to Kim Kennedy (née Stewart). She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of family, including five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of deep joy and pride in her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Stewart; her son, Danny Mettler; and her sister, Alta Zawko; and former husband Francis Mettler.

Dorothy worked for many years at the A&P Plant, where she was known for her strong work ethic and reliability. Beyond her work, she was a woman of remarkable kindness and grace. She was easy to love, quick to forgive, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Dorothy possessed a tender soul and never hesitated to offer love, support, or even her last dollar to someone in need.

She found happiness tending to her flower garden, enjoying crafts, and most of all, being surrounded by her family. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone she met.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers-Debra Mettler, Melissa Mettler, and Kaitlynn Parker-for the loving and compassionate care they provided.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
