Dorothy May Thomas, affectionately known as "Dottie Mae," "Dot," or "G-Dot," found her eternal rest on July 9th, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on May 27th, 1944, in Greenville, North Carolina, to Willie and Mozel Daniel, Dorothy moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, at a young age and later became a long-time resident of Stratford, Connecticut.
A woman of deep faith and an even deeper love for her family, Dorothy carried a strong spirit, a kind heart, and an infectious sense of humor that made her beloved by all who knew her.
Dorothy spent many years working at the SNET Phone Company, where her strong work ethic, fiery personality, and com-passionate nature helped forge lifelong friendships. She also briefly worked as a bus monitor for the Bridgeport Education System, where she found joy in building connections with local youth.
Outside of work, Dorothy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: watching her soap operas and game shows, chatting on the phone to check in on family and friends, and hosting loved ones around her kitchen table for laughter, storytelling, and maybe a bite to eat or a cup of coffee. She also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, always up for a little excitement and fun.
Dorothy's greatest joy was her family, to whom she was wholeheartedly devoted. Her legacy of love, strength, and generosity will live on through all those whose lives she touched.
She is predeceased by her parents, Willie and Mozel Daniel; her sister, Marilyn Rilley-Day; her brother, Kermit Daniel; her brother-in-law, Henry "Chico" Day; and her nephew, Shaun Rilley.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Sherri and Gary Thomas; her sister, Beverly Rilley; her cherished grandchildren, Tremaine, Terrell, and Taneesha (husband Kasey); and her great-grandchildren, Tremaine Jr., Tristin, and Myles; her adored special daughters, Teresa Grant, Tawana Grant and Alexis Young; and her longtime companion, Samuel Thompson. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
