Larry Thomas

Larry Eugene Thomas, Sr., 84, of Hodges, husband of Faye Wrenn Thomas, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2025, at home surrounded by his wife and children. Born in Ware Shoals, he was the son of the late Charlie and Mary B. Thomas. Larry graduated from Greenwood High School where he lettered in track and football. He held the record of most yards gained in a game from 1959 to 1972 and was a member of the Greenwood Athletic Hall of Fame. He attended Western Carolina College on a football scholarship. Larry worked for Hearst Coleman Survey Co, General Cable, Greenwood County and retired from the city of Greenwood. He was a member of Hodges Methodist Church. Larry was a member of Bascomb Lodge 363 in Hodges where he served as past Master several times and also served as District Deputy Grandmaster for the eleventh district. He was most proud of his family. Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years are his children, Gene Thomas, Jr. (Liz) of Hodges and Sheliah Mauldin of Six Mile; grandchildren, T J Wright, Carson Mauldin (Callie), Abie Todd (Jack) and John Baker; great granddaughter, Makenna Faye Mauldin; six nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Pam and Connie. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Hughes; a nephew; and great-great nephew. The family would like to thank the workers from Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving care and concern: Dr. Wicker, Cheryl, Whitney, Kayla, Tiffany, Kathryn Grace and Chaplain Brian. We would also like to thank Whitney from Self Regional for her compassionate care and kindness. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends before the service at the funeral home from 1-2 pm.
