Dorothy M. Weiss, age 97, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025.
Born on August 9, 1928, to Emil and Pearl (Scheuring) Weiss, Dorothy dedicated her life to her family and to educating young minds in the Fox Valley community. A proud graduate of Madonna High School, she went on to earn her B.A. in Education from Saint Benedict's College in Minnesota.
"Miss Weiss," as she was affectionately known, devoted forty-five years to teaching sixth grade at Holy Angels Grade School in Aurora. With her patient guidance, thoughtful attention, and steadfast belief in every student's potential, Dorothy inspired generations of children to approach learning with confidence, curiosity, and joy. Her devotion and gentle spirit left an enduring mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Following her retirement from Holy Angels, Dorothy remained active and deeply committed to education. She continued to tutor students one-on-one, and volunteered at the Domincan Learning Center, offering encouragement and personal guidance that reflected her lifelong passion for service.
Dorothy was blessed with a wide circle of family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers whose lives were enriched by her warmth, grace, and genuine care for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Robert (Marion) Weiss; her sister Marilyn (Erv) Nowak; and her cousin Florence (Gale) Cather. She is survived by her brother Richard (Sandy) Weiss; cousins Frank (Marlene) Haefelin and David Scheuring; and her nieces and nephews Rob (Amy) Weiss, Kathy Byhring, Anne (Adnon) Adawi, Paul (Bo) Nowak, Bill (Debbie) Weiss, and Patrick (Lora) Weiss, along with eighteen grandnieces, grandnephews, and their children.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 5, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Daleiden Mortuary (220 N. Lake St. Aurora, IL 60506, 630-631-5500). The service will follow on Thursday, November 6, at 10:00 a.m. at Daleiden Mortuary, with burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery and a luncheon to follow at Two Brothers.
Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted educator, loving sister and aunt, and cherished friend. Her legacy endures through the countless lives she shaped with patience, kindness, and faith.

Miss Weiss is one of two teachers who were instrumental in developing my love of language and reading. She was one of the reasons I became an English teacher. She was very strict about grammar and mechanics. Her diagramming sentences exercises helped me teach grammar to visual learners. She ran a tight ship. She was also the only teacher who sent me out of the room for talking. (I was telling my neighbor what page we were on.) I never talked to anyone else
in her classroom again.I saw her a few years ago. She was pleasant. I told her she looked wonderful. She disagreed and told me she had aged. Haven't we all. It made me smile. May she rest in peace.

Miss Weiss was a favorite teacher of mine at Holy Angels '69-70 and then for my son as well '95-'96. She was so smart and such a kind and loving person and teacher. RIP Miss Weiss.
