Dorsie Dean Sooter, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather was born in Rolla, Missouri on January 3, 1935. He was the son of Dorsie V. Sooter and Eunice (Riddle) Sooter. In November 1952 he married his sweetheart Dorothy Jean (Helton) Sooter. They had two children. He passed peacefully at the age of 90.
His family called him Dean and he was known for his love of fishing and taking care of everyone in his family. He had a successful career spanning over 50 years working as a carpenter where he served first as the Sixth District Board Member for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters covering the midwestern states, including Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas, with St. Louis serving as the major regional hub. He was later promoted as the First General Vice President of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) from 1988 to 1994 where he served in Washington D.C. He retired in 1994 and moved back to Rolla where he spent most of his time helping many people, collecting antiques, fixing up properties, fishing, working outdoors, and spending time with his wife Dorothy, his children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jean (Helton) Sooter, brother, Robert Sooter, sister Georgia Sooter Beydler, and infant sister Eunice Esther Sooter.
Dean will be sadly missed by his surviving family which includes his daughter Janice Turner and husband Paul Turner of Rolla, son Luther Sooter of Rolla; one sister Barbara Wessner and husband John of Rolla; three grandchildren, Carmen Turner Schott (Rick), Trevor Turner (Julie), and Dean Sooter; four great-grandchildren, Bella Schott, Tenley Turner, Lincoln Turner, and Madden Turner.
A funeral service for Dorsie Dean Sooter will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Null and Son Funeral Home of Rolla. Interment will follow at the Rolla Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Trevor Turner, Dean Sooter, Rick Schott, Terry Davis, Mark Williams, and Dewayne Thorpe. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Parkside Assisted Living in Rolla.
