Dorthy E. Smith, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at her residence in Williamsville. She was born May 13, 1936, in Forrest City, Arkansas, the daughter of Jack and Mattie (Perkins) Hill. Dorthy married RC Smith on May 16, 1953, and they moved to Illinois in 1955. He preceded her in death in 2009.
Mourning her passing are her daughters, Pam (husband Jim) Littel and Julie (husband Wally) Schultz; son, Rick (wife Julia) Smith; four grandchildren, Rachel, Jordan, Taylor, and Tanner; one great-grandchild, Ford; and siblings, Charles Hill, James Hill, Diane White, Jackie Hill, David Hill, and Jimmy Hill. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William Hill and Jerry Hill; and sisters, Evelyn Eldridge and Margaret Richmond.
Dorthy was a lifelong member of the Williamsville United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful, selfless wife, devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She loved working in her yard and flower beds and found great joy in caring for her home and family.
When her four grandkids came along, it added even more happiness to her life. Dorthy’s memory will always live on in the hearts of everyone that knew her. They will remember her sweetness and her amazing love for her family and friends. If you talked, she would listen. If you needed help, she would be there. She had a unique way of making you feel special. Greatly loved. Deeply missed.
Visitation for Dorthy will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 also at the funeral home.
Burial will take place immediately following the service at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.
