Dennis Karl Duncan, 68, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2025.
Dennis was born on August 14, 1957, in Springfield, Illinois, to Ernest Karl Duncan and Joyce Darlene (Clemens) Duncan.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Ernest Karl Duncan and his spouse, Sandy Farley; his mom, Joyce Darlene Duncan; and twin brothers, Donald Eugene and Douglas Bennett Duncan.
Mourning his passing are his brothers, Randy (Ronda) Duncan of Sherman, IL, and Craig Duncan of San Diego, CA; his sister, Kristy (Donnie) Nation of Springfield, IL; three nephews, Zachary (Kayla) Duncan, Jessup Duncan, and Duncan Nation; and one great-nephew, Gavin Duncan. He is also remembered fondly by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Dennis graduated from Alamogordo High School in New Mexico and later earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from New Mexico State University (NMSU). He spent over 20 years working as a General Manager for McDonald’s in New Mexico before returning to Illinois, where he served as Postmaster for the United States Postal Service in Buffalo, IL.
He was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan, and those who knew him well knew of his fondness for the color orange.
Dennis took pride in completing the Sunday crossword puzzles and had a knack for giving loved ones shirts with cats, logos, or sports themes—usually with a laugh or surprise. He cherished his dog, Pugsley, and his beloved cats: Mr. Tibbs, Moose, Callie Cat, TJ, and Little Mr. Kristy.
Dennis had a big heart and a generous spirit. He loved spending time with his family, reminiscing about his years in New Mexico, and exploring new restaurants. Always thoughtful, he was known for having a snack ready for anyone who he knew—and would gladly give you the shirt off his back (or one he had made just for you).
Dennis’s humor, kindness, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Visitation for Dennis will be held from 10:00 AM until time of memorial services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, IL.
