Watertown, SD passed away on October 19, 2025 in Sioux Falls.
Funeral service will be at 11:00am on Friday, October 24, 2025 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00pm on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Active pallbearers will be Aaron Hovitek, Scott Bleeker, Tyler Hovitek, Austin Hovitek, Jaysen Vetter, Cody Leraas and Brett Garry. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Madison, Lilja, Skyla, Kora, Preslee and Siena, along with Mike and Terry Leraas, Jan and Joe Garry and Bob Marquardt.
Douglas Harold Bleeker was born on October 18, 1955 to Harold and Ruth (Walklin) Bleeker in Castlewood, SD. He grew up and went to school in Castlewood, graduating in 1973.
In 1975 Doug moved to Watertown. He was united in marriage to Alynn "Lynn" Solum on November 8, 1975 at the New Helgen Church in Florence, SD.
Doug's career as a salesman in the logistics freight shipping industry led him to work with a handful of companies throughout the years. He worked for the Elevator, Coca-Cola, Smith Equipment, CF and Vitran. In 2003 he moved to Sioux Falls where he worked for Wells Fargo and Yellow Freight. He retired from the industry in 2021.
In his spare time, Doug loved to hunt. He also had a hobby in woodworking and loved making birdhouses and other things. Being around his children brought him joy and he loved his grandchildren dearly. His favorite saying to his grandchildren was, "Love you to the moon and back."
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of nearly 50 years, Lynn (Solum) Bleeker of Sioux Falls; his children, Vickie Audunsson of Sioux Falls; Jamie (Aaron) Hovitek of
Watertown, SD and Scott (Erin) Bleeker of Brandon, SD; eight grandchildren, Madison, Lilja, Tyler, Austin, Skyla, Kora, Preslee and Siena; one great-grandchild, Brantley, and one on the way; his brothers and sisters, Valerie Rubio, Deb Jorgenson, Bonita VanDykhorst, Mony (Dave) Walburg, Rodney (Laurie) Bleeker all of Watertown, Gordon (Kristy) Bleeker of Scottsdale, AZ and David Bleeker of Clear Lake, SD.
He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Lois Jean; his grandparents, Howard and Laura Walklin and John and Jenny Bleeker; his in-laws, Alvin Solum, Elenor and Dick Nuttbrock; and brother-in-law, Steve Solum.
