Douglas Clark Alger, son of the late Jesse and Crystal (Bridges) Alger, was born June 20, 1945, in Richfield, Utah, and departed this life October 29, 2024, at Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri

Douglas moved around a lot as a child and had attended 31 different schools. He graduated from Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite, Nevada, with the class of 1963. He was united in marriage to Patricia Anderson on January 7, 1965, and two children were born to this union: Douglas Charles and Denise. Douglas and Patricia made their home in Mesquite, Nevada, where Douglas worked as a chef for many years. He also worked as a housekeeping manager and locksmith at a hotel, and later became the chief engineer at The Oasis Hotel and Casino in Mesquite, Nevada. Over the years, Douglas also served as Fire Chief and volunteer paramedic in Mesquite, Nevada. After retirement, they moved to Mountain Grove, Missouri, in 2008, where they made their home until Douglas’ passing.

Douglas loved to bowl and he enjoyed competing in many bowling leagues and tournaments. He also liked playing golf in his free time. Douglas had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and taking care of plants. He would acquire less than healthy plants, and most of the time he was able to rescue them and help them to thrive. Douglas was also very handy around the house and liked to tinker. He always wanted to have a project going, and never wanted to remain idle. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mountain Grove, Missouri. Douglas loved to sing, and he enjoyed singing in the choir at church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Crystal Alger, and two sisters, Janice Kendrick and Phyllis White.

Douglas is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Patricia Alger, one daughter, Denise Leavitt and her husband, Ed, one son, Douglas Charles Alger and his wife, Tabatha, six grandchildren, Zachary “Violett” Leavitt, Nate Leavitt, Quinn Leavitt and his wife, Kylie, Taya Horner and her husband, Jonathan, Trevor Ellis, and Trishelle Alger, one great-grandchild, Bourbyn Horner, two brothers, James Alger and Jesse Alger, one sister, Lucille (Alger), and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
