Mr. Douglas Leroy Baker Sr, 81 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully on February 17, 2026 surrounded by family. Born on March 19, 1944, he was the son of Harold and Helen (Dowker) Baker. Doug was born in Atlanta, Michigan and raised on a dairy farm. A lifelong farmer and proud United States Army veteran, Doug dedicated his days to the land he loved, rising early and working tirelessly. He honorably served his country carrying with him the same sense of duty and commitment that he later poured into his children and his farm. He was employed as a Montmorency County dispatcher for several years and worked as weighmaster and superintendent for the Montmorency County Road Commission. He was also a member of the American Legion. Those who knew Doug will remember him for his steady presence and the love he had for his family. He is and will be deeply missed.
Doug is remembered by his children, Julie (Jeff) Maechtle, Douglas (Carol) Baker Jr; Miranda Johnson; Adam Baker, and their families; grandchildren, Michael Haren, Kevin (Karen) Haren, Tiffany Haren, Brandy (Chase) Amborski, Brittney Baker, Kendra Baker; and Bradley Hoffman; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Sunnie, Audrey, Sawyer, Baylor, Grayson, and one on the way, Braelyn; siblings, Richard Baker, Majel (Bob) Anderson, Keith (Belinda) Baker; and many more step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen Baker; daughter, JoEllen Baker; brothers, Charles Baker and Art Baker; and sister, baby June.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial held in celebration of Doug’s life at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Home.
