DOUGLAS ALLAN BENCHECK

Douglas A. Bencheck, 62, of Gagetown, died Friday, March 8, 2024 in Covenant HealthCare, Saginaw.   He was born August 19, 1961 in Cass City to Steve and Delores (Rockefeller) Bencheck.

Douglas worked over forty years as a custom applicator at Terra Company in Owendale and then for Cooperative Elevator Company in Pigeon.  Every year, he could hardly wait for hunting season.  Douglas loved deer hunting with his nephews Chad and Shane and great nephew, Owen.  He would ride around the area looking for deer and would often call his sister Cindy to go with him and would tell her to “bring the coffee”.   Douglas always went to Cindy’s house for the holidays and enjoyed playing cards with them.  He also enjoyed going for a ride to check out the fishing and would visit with his Uncle Gary (Mary Ellen) Rockefeller and Todd Rockefeller.  He will be remembered for calling Chad every morning to talk while on his way to work and going to Cindy’s house three to four times a week for coffee after work.

Thank you to all that would call and check on him.  A special thank you to his good friend, Jacki Mandich, who worked with him at Terra for thirteen years, and for all the trips she would take with Cindy to see Douglas.   Special thank you to Cindy’s sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lona and Robert Piaskowski for the trips they took with Cindy to visit Douglas in the hospital.

Douglas is survived by his sister, Cindy (Tom) Mellendorf; nephews:  Chad Mellendorf (Evelyn), Shane Mellendorf (Kristina and Anthony); niece, Sid Bencheck; great nephew, Owen Mellendorf; great niece, Addison Mellendorf; sister-in-law, Kelly (Larry) Thompson.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mark Bencheck.

Memorial service held 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ officiating.  Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery.    Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Visitation:  10 am to 12 pm Tuesday, March 19, 2024 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City
