Susan Marie Bencheck, age 75, formerly of Durand and Grayling, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at Durand Senior Care in Durand. In accordance with her wishes, she is to be laid to rest next to her son, Edward, in a private family
interment at Deerfield Twp. Cemetery.
Born on November 9, 1949, in Flint, Michigan, Susan was the middle child born to Mahlon and Pauline (Rice) Ruby.
Susan graduated from high school in Durand and furthered her education at Central Michigan University, where she pursued a degree in engineering. Her dedication to her studies was a testament to her strong work ethic, a trait that remained evident
throughout her life. Susan's career in engineering was marked by numerous accolades and achievements, and she took pride in her contributions to various factories in Grayling and the local area.
Her marriage to William Bencheck was a significant chapter in her life, and from this union, she was blessed with her son, Edward Bencheck, who was the pride and joy of her life. Despite the profound loss of Edward, Susan's capacity for love never wavered, and she continued to be a source of strength and comfort to her family and friends.
Susan is survived by her nieces, Tonya Ruby; nephews, Keith (Amie) Ruby, Scott Ruby, Todd (Becky) Ruby, Jeff Ruby, and Brian (Shelly) Ruby; sister-in-law, Ruth Pagan; and a host of great-nieces and nephews whom she adored; and her special friends, Becky and Harold Acord. Her nieces and nephews will forever cherish the memories of their aunt's boundless love and guidance. She was predeceased by her parents, her son Edward, her sister Cathleen Acord, her brother Mahlon "Chuck" Ruby, and her nephew's wife, Dawn Ruby with whom she is celebrating eternal life with.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Susan had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved shopping, and her passion for collecting Elvis memorabilia was known to everyone in her close-knit circle.
As we say goodbye to Susan Marie Bencheck, we celebrate a life well lived-a life filled with love and a profound commitment to others.
