Douglas W. Bowden, Jr., born February 2, 1934, passed away suddenly on December 19, 2025, at the age of 91. He was happily married for 47 years to Joan MacKinnel Bowden, who predeceased him in 2005.
Doug was born in New Haven on February 2, 1934, son of the late Douglas W. Bowden, Sr. and Myrtle Wright. He served in the United States Army. After his service, he worked for many years in the Environmental Lab with the United Illuminating company until his retirement.
He is survived by his children, Scott (Donna) Bowden of East Lyme and Karen (Scott) Gell of Branford. He was immensely proud of his four grandchildren, Kevin (Megan) Gell, Eric (Emily Tyler) Gell, Dr. Acacia Bowden, and Isabelle Bowden, each of whom brought him tremendous joy. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Pogmore of Middletown, and several nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday morning, December 23, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, with a service at 11:00, at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery, East Haven.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, 749 East Main Street, Branford, CT 06405, or Tabor Lutheran Church, 45 Tabor Drive, Branford, CT 06405.

To the Bowden family, condolences on the loss of a great man . Doug was lifelong friends with my dad, Newt , they shared a love of Classic and antique vehicles. I will miss seeing him at car shows and walking at Foote park . RIP Dougie !

To Doug´s children. I worked with your dad at the UI company for several years. I left in 1990 and lost contact with him. I´ve thought of him over the years.. a really nice man.
